Still I Rise Films WELCOMES SUBMISSIONS FROM VISUAL ARTISTS WHO WANT TO SHOWCASE THEIR non-fiction SHORT FILMS ON OUR PLATFORM.

We created the Still I Rise film series and fellowship program to support the projects of women filmmakers who have shown great promise in the field of visual storytelling and documentary filmmaking. Our goal is to provide a platform for creative work that aims to challenge and expand perceptions through the power of storytelling.

In 2021, Still I Rise Films dedicated $75,000 to fellowship and grant support, along with a mentorship lab, for visual artists who push the boundaries in documentary film, animation and/or mixed media. Completed films are hosted on Still I Rise Films.

For the last two years, Still I Rise Films has collaborated on feature-length documentary productions. We no longer accept grant submissions, however we continue to acquire finished projects that address the theme of Still I Rise – a deeper look at adversity and rising above the odds. If you have a film that you believe is a good fit, please submit below after reading the commonly asked questions.

FAQ

What makes a good Still I Rise SUBMISSION?

We aspire to create work that shifts perceptions through intimate narratives about ordinary people who rarely get to tell their own story. The focus of the “Still I Rise” film series is on race and migration. We showcase films that explore the personal experiences of individuals who’ve overcome adversity despite the odds and most importantly, dedicate themselves to helping others do the same. We strongly encourage artists to look at some of the examples on the site for inspiration and to gain a deeper understanding of the work we produce. We only accept non-fiction work.

What do we mean by pushing the boundaries?

Still I Rise films include animations, illustrations and still photography in addition to beautifully filmed footage. We encourage filmmakers to explore mixed media, innovative sound design and fresh ways of combining journalism with art.

Will I have full creative control of my work?

Absolutely. We are here to provide another platform for your work. You retain full rights to your work.

DOES STILL I RISE ACCEPT FICTION?

No, our focus is on documentary non-fiction.

HOW LONG SHOULD MY FILM BE AND DO YOU ACCEPT WORK-IN-PROGRESS?

We accept short films. Your completed project should be between 15-30 minutes long, but we’ve also acquired shorter films. We don’t accept work-in-progress, only finished projects.

Does my film need to take place within the United States?

Not at all. If the visual project you submit is compelling and falls under the theme of “Still I Rise,” it shouldn’t be limited by borders.
